Information for Portfolio: Blue and Gold

Choosing images for this portfolio has made me realise how appropriate is the title ‘Blue and Gold’, a title that I used for my recent exhibition at our local Pottery.

I have been taking photographs for many years, of anything and everything. But I keep coming back to my love of small details, not real abstracts because you can tell what they are, but what Ansel Adams called ‘extracts’.

I live near the sea and love to go for a walk and see what I notice. More and more I use a mobile phone for straight landscapes or if I am walking with friends- and give the camera an outing when I am on my own just taking pictures. When on holiday I spend a lot of time taking photographs.

At the beginning of the lockdown when facing a few months at home, I bought a cyanotype kit. And I got hooked. I absolutely love making cyanotype images, a real tonic to get away from Photoshop and the computer. It helps to like blue although I have been experimenting with using gold paint as well. It’s a very unpredictable process which is half the fun of it!
